Project: Tree assessment and development of a management schedule to support an application for conservation funding.

Location: Rural agricultural property in Herefordshire

This client owns and farms land in rural Herefordshire, including land that borders rivers and watercourses. The client was making an application for a conservation grant and needed advice and an accompanying report to support the responsible commercial development of trees as a resource on his land bordering a watercourse.

Having had an initial conversation with the client, we were able to arrange a site visit and assessment to allow us to better understand the existing situation and what they were hoping to achieve. A large group of riverside Willows had been earmarked as the basis for conservation management, and we suggested that pollarding in a traditional manner would be the most efficient method of ensuring the longevity and productivity of the trees. The riverside vegetation was also assessed to ensure that no obviously invasive or detrimental species were likely to interrupt growth and conservation going forwards.

To support the client’s grant application, a report and management schedule was created, and the client was then able to use this information and follow up with us as needed to successfully secure their funding.
